Downham Market Twinning Club

Presented by Steve Nunn

The wines have been selected over a period of a few weeks of four white and four red from various stores and one from mail order.

Twenty-six members came to our Christmas Social where we began with the first wine to taste, a toast to Glyn Howells, our former President, who had passed away the previous day.

Steve Nunn gave an excellent account of the wines he chose for us to taste, four whites and four reds, there was something for everyone.

Each wine Steve scored out of ten. For this it was not the highest score but same or nearest to Steve’s score. Bob Trickett and Julia Keitch both had the same as Steve with 62. A coin tossed and Julia had the prize of a bottle of Cava.

The wines had been purchased during special offers or deals from the list produced by Steve showing the price and price actually paid. From around the world we tasted wines from Italy, New Zealand, Germany, France, Argentina and Spain.

Steve had also bought along for those who wanted, a sweet wine, Monbazillac purchased whilst on a visit in France some years ago.

After the tasting we were served with coffee, mince pies and sausage rolls.

The monthly draw for December winners -  £100 Morag Kitchener and £50 Chloe Newman.

The wine tasting with the knowledge of Steve from his past experience in the wine trade gives us an opportunity to try wines at prices we perhaps wouldn’t think of paying as well as wines that we may not think about trying.

Thank you, Steve. An excellent evening was enjoyed. See you next December to treat us with another selection of wines to taste.
