After finishing our walk, some of us went to The Whalebone to have a drink and something to eat. It was also interesting to see in there, displays of local people, including Jim Russell, who many people will know owned a garage in the town almost opposite the police station.
On Tuesday 12th June, 15 members enjoyed a walk around Downham Market with Mike Bullen. Last year he took us on a walk around the clock, St Edmunds Church and Howdale area of the town.
This year we started at The Hollies car park and made our way around the lower end of the town, taking in Priory Terrace and sections of Priory Road, Bridge Street and Paradise Road, finishing back at The Hollies.During the tour Mike showed us lots of photos of how Downham used to look in those areas and detailed some of the events that took place in the town at that time. Many of the shops have long since gone and some areas have barely changed at all.
We are now looking forward to the annual Jazz picnic event in July, held at Steve and Sharon Reynold's and the biannual visit to Civray on 30th July for a week, to see our French friends.
